The 2006 conflict between the APPO, Sección 22, and the government of Ulises Ruiz Ortiz laid bare the utter dependency of Oaxaca on tourism. Tourism has been the number one source of revenue in the state of Oaxaca for several decades. This section explores the differential perspectives of artisans, small merchants, and business people who were affected by the 2006 social movement. Some were bitterly opposed to the APPO and others tried to engage with it.
